Me on the Map

Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney

This is a great book for learning about map reading skills, and fortunately, it's part of our reading series.  In this story, a young girl discovers where she is on a map, and shows readers how to place themselves on various maps. She states, "Everybody has their own special place on the map."

Inspired by a terrific project by clutter-free classroom (http://clutterfreeclassroom.blogspot.com/2011/09/take-peek-at-my-weekin-review.html), our first graders completed this colorful project to help them discover their homes are part of the larger world.  The children learned about characteristics of maps and globes and were introduced to Google Earth as well.
